Why God hides huge truth inside things that dont look Godly to us.

Mark Holloway's picture

God I think you’re saying that you hide big truths inside people and situations that look completely wrong to us believers? That Religion’s rules about where we will find truth are NOT your rules?

Yes exactly. I’ve always hidden truth like that. Historically, when I have revealed truth, it’s often been believers who have been most unhappy with it.

Can you explain?

Of course. Write down these examples as I explain them.

Really?  I was hoping to talk to you for a minute about WHY you hide truth.

We can talk about why later. First let me give you a bible verse and then some obvious examples.

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.” PROV 25:2

Now here are a few examples of how this works: When I came to save humans from their broken relationships and messed up lives I arrived as the illegitimate child of an unmarried mother. I was born in a dirty farm building miles from my mother’s home and then I was raised in an undesirable neighbourhood.   And finally, while still in my prime I was tortured to death, naked, in front of hundreds of people – a shameful criminal’s death. Sound like the Messiah to you?

To show the early believers how to live their lives in a back and forward relationship with me, I used the teaching and writings of a man who masterminded the genocide and murder of many of their friends and loved ones. Sound like a good Godly teacher to you?

I promised hundreds of years in advance that a great prophet would announce my arrival. And yet when he arrived he had a reputation as a madman who had no home, dressed in animal skins and slept rough in the desert, existing on a diet of insects and honey. Sound like a great man of God to you?

You’re familiar with these stories Mark so the concept is easy for you to absorb. But at the time it upset many good people trying their best to follow me. It made it extremely difficult to determine whether this self-proclaimed messiah was the real thing, or simply an imposter.  I hid the truth from them in situations and people that seemed far from the truth.

Ok? But why??

Why do you think I would conceal truth Mark, and why hide it in people and situations that seem far from the truth??

Well if you want to hide something it makes sense to hide it in places others would least expect to find it. That part’s obvious - but why hide truth in the first place? I’m still trying to get my head around that.

I’ve already told you the answer – what did I say?

That if truth was obvious and there wasn’t much of a search required to find it - then it would never be treated with the respect it deserves? If we don’t desire and hunt after truth then we won’t value it?

Exactly. If I conceal truth, so that you have to seek a little harder to find it, then you humans will value it more. So I hide it, but in plain sight. It’s staring you in the face, but you miss it because you’re not looking for it in the right place. You’re all busy looking for truth in religion – religious people, books, meetings etc. But I have always hidden most truth in life. The bible stories I have just quoted to you make it obvious that I hide the biggest truths miles away from religion. When those stories happened they seemed like dirty, messy worldly stories – they weren’t in the bible when they happened. In fact they seemed to make a mockery of what was the bible at the time.

That’s the point of this conversation. If you stop expecting Religion to spoon feed you truth and start looking for it in your day to day life, then I’ll show it to you. You’ll find it hidden in plain sight.

Give me examples?

I’ve given you biblical ones – my story, Paul’s story, John’s story. But you’ll also find truth in the words of your kids - even when they’re misbehaving. You’ll find it in a comment from a cursing atheist boss – or in a book or a movie or a song written by people doing things that look wrong to you. Do you understand? Religion’s rules about where truth can and cannot be found are not my rules Mark.

Ok.

Read the verse again Mark. I conceal a matter so that you can find it. When you have to seek after truth and recognise it even when it doesn’t look like truth, then that truth belongs to you. The saviour of the world didn’t look like the saviour of the world. He still often doesn’t.
