I was spending some time with God the other day and he spoke five words that rocked my socks. He said, “Jesus is your Promised Land.”
I’ve written before about dreams, passions, visions, goals, and other things of that nature. I’ve said that they are all great things and they are. But no matter what our dreams and goals are they will never be our Promised Land. They can only be part of it.
I’m not saying that it’s wrong to dream and have goals and then pursue them. What I’m saying is that they cannot be our source of LIFE. They cannot be our main pursuit. If our goals, dreams, and visions are our main aim, we will find more emptiness than we’ve ever felt before.
But if we set our eyes on Jesus and trek toward his heart, we will find the abundant LIFE we’ve been searching for all along.
I know how it is to have promises come from God through personal quiet time and also through others in a prophetic capacity. I know how it is to be waiting around tapping my foot wondering when what was promised is supposed to come to pass. I’ve pleaded with God to just let me catch a glimpse of it starting to come to pass.
But those words, those promises, are not the Promised Land meant for us. They are great things that our perfect Father wants to pour out onto us but they are not, and cannot be, our source of LIFE. Our source of LIFE comes from the only one capable of holding it; the only one who can ever back up the claim to be our Promised Land: Jesus.
For as many as are the promises of God, in Christ they are [all answered] “Yes.” So through Him we say our “Amen” to the glory of God. -1 Cor. 1:20
I wonder if we really understand what that means. Our destination is not the house, the car, the book, the show, the job, the school or anything else that God wants for us. Our destination is Jesus and when we plant our feet firmly in the Promised Land of Christ, all of those things will be added unto us.
But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also. –Matthew 6:33
So be encouraged as you run into the arms of Jesus. Everything you could ever want is found right there in his heart. All of the promises of God are fulfilled as you let him embrace you. The beat of his heart is thumping for you and it is unleashing every good thing, every good gift from above that is falling from the Father of Lights.
Recognize Christ in your life as the Promised Land and you will come to know that the answers have already been given to everything you’ve ever truly wanted.
Blessings,
Jesse and Kara Birkey
