Yes, the election is over. Half the nation is thrilled. Others are in great pain. So how am I to respond to them?
I see some people mocking them and belittling them. Some, I’m sure, are simply quiet. What would the Lord have us do with those who are in pain?
One verse that comes to mind is, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" (Matt. 7:12). Well, when I’m in pain, I want support and encouragement.
Another verse that comes to mind is, “Don’t be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good" (Rom. 12:21).
That makes me think I should be reaching out with love and understanding.
Well, what if I believe they are being disciplined by the Lord? Then this verse comes to mind.
"Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles or the LORD will see it and be displeased, And turn His anger away from him" (Prov. 24:17-18).
Ok, so the summary is: be nice, be loving, be kind.

Lord, what would You speak to me concerning people in pain?
