Godly imagination transforms into a vision when I pray for the eyes of my heart to be enlightened, tune to flow, and the Spirit brings the scene alive. These visions bring joy, peace, and hope.

Working definitions that allow me to ascend into Spirit encounter
- Godly imagination is when I am picturing God’s truth. Evil imagination is when I am picturing things contrary to Scripture (Jer. 7:24).
- Vision occurs when I pray asking that the eyes of my heart be enlightened (Eph. 1:17-19), tune to flow (Jn. 7:37-39), and God take overs my godly imagination, bringing it alive. At this point I have just stepped from a godly imagination into a vision. Jesus lived in vision all the time (as shown in this blog).
- Emotions are a by-product of pictures – I will keep him in perfect peace whose imagination is stayed on me (See Hebrew word definitions). Since emotions will NOT respond to my logical commands, I will use God’s approach of utilizing godly imaginations, releasing them to flow and stepping into heavenly visions. Kingdom pictures produce Kingdom emotions (Rom. 14:17). Astounding!
- Tips on "How do I yield my godly imagination to Spirit flow?" Ask the Holy Spirit to take over the scene and show you what He wants you to see (Eph. 1:17,18). Become childlike. Smile. Picture yourself as a child. Become playful. Take a deep slow breath. Cease your labors; enter into rest. Stop striving and grunting. Honor the flowing thoughts and pictures which appear as they are coming from the River of God that flows within you.
Couple biblical imaginations with Spirit flow and receive visions
Below are twelve “starter” imaginations which you can invite the Spirit to take over. Tune to flow and receive heavenly visions for the moment you are living it.
- Jesus, I see You always with me (Matt. 28:20; Heb. 13:5). Note: These verses didn’t say, “Remember, I am with you” or “Confess I am with you.” Jesus said, “Look and see that I am with you!” Jesus is not just abstractly floating around somewhere in a distant spiritual dimension. He is specifically and personally with me.
- Lord, You have encircled me behind and in front and placed Your hand upon me (Ps. 139:5). What does that look like – God is encircling me! Maybe wrapping His arms around me?
- Eternal God, You are my refuge, and underneath are Your everlasting arms (Deut. 33:27). Like a parent carrying a sleeping child or a groom carrying his bride over the threshold, I am in His arms!
-
I saw the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken (Acts 2:25; Ps. 16:8). I choose to SEE Jesus at my right hand all the time! Why would I not do this? This removes fear, insecurity, and loneliness.
-
Fear not, for I am with you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand, who says to you, “Do not fear, I will help you” (Isa. 41:10, 13). He is not just walking by me; He is holding my hand and promising to help me. I see a father walking with his child, holding his hand. The child stumbles over a rock but doesn’t fall because daddy “upholds” him (holds him up) with his hand. When the child is afraid of getting hurt, Daddy says, “Don’t be afraid – I’m with you, I’ll help you.”
-
On the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; He will hide me in the secret place of His tent (Psa. 27:5). The word “sanctuary” is used for the room where we meet to worship God. But it also means “a place of safety” because those who were being chased, either rightly because they did something wrong or unfairly by their enemies, if they made it into the tabernacle, they were safe. They couldn’t be touched. God has a secret room – a “safe room” - in His house where He will hide us when we are afraid.
-
He will cover you with his feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge (Ps. 91:4). I can’t really picture either of us as birds! But based on this, one of my favorite pictures to imagine is me as a child, sitting on His lap in a rocking chair. He is in traditional first-century clothes. As I am sitting sideways on His lap, leaning into Him, He wraps His arms around me, bringing up the robes hanging from His sleeves and covering me – kind of like His “wings.”
-
The name of the Lord is a fortified tower, a strong fortress; the righteous run to it and are saved (Prov. 18:10). I picture this like in medieval times when the lord lived in a big stone castle with soldiers standing guard on the walls with spears and arrows and catapults. His subjects lived on the land surrounding it. When an enemy attacked, the people would all run into the fortress and be protected by their lord and his armies.
-
The Lord of armies is with us (Ps. 46:7). This would be the angel armies! See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared (Ex. 23:20). Ask the Lord to show you the angel that is going before you and guarding you, making sure you get to the place or the destiny He has prepared for you.
-
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and rescues them (Ps. 34:7). For He will give His angels orders concerning you, to protect you in all your ways. On their hands they will lift you up, so that you do not strike your foot against a stone (Ps. 91:11,12). Contemporary English Version - They will carry you in their arms, and you won't hurt your feet on the stones.
-
When your eyes are opened and you see the truth, you will not be afraid, “for those who are with us are greater than those who are with them!” (2 Kings 6:16). Both greater in number and greater in power and authority.
-
Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 Jn. 4:4).
Application
Let the Lord lead you in which pictures to be seeing and releasing to Him for visions. Practice this daily. It is sure better than the opposite, which is to not be picturing the above as your reality. Since we do picture something all the time, picture what the Bible says is true concerning you and you get to walk in Kingdom power, Kingdom peace, and divine initiative. What a remarkable gift. Truly this gift of salvation is far greater than anything we have imagined on our own. Thank You, Lord!
Beholding Jesus While Fulfilling the Great Commission – from Don Paprockyj

As missionaries in Africa, we saw many thousands pray to receive Jesus. Although we are not serving there anymore, multitudes upon multitudes continue to come to Jesus through the churches we helped establish and pastors that we mentor. Praise the Lord!!!
An example of beholding Jesus while fulfilling the Great Commission was during an outreach at a squalid refugee camp in South Africa. We had a group of Americans come to help us minister. In this camp, people lived in shacks and even native South Africa Africans, who were in our group, were appalled at the conditions. As we were ministering in the shacks, we came across a woman witch doctor.
We witnessed to her and God‘s presence was extremely strong! She received Jesus and agreed to remove her satanic “jewelry” and gave up other paraphernalia to let us burn for her. We went along ministering to others in the camp, and this ex-witch kept following us, praising God for her freedom. She even bowed down in front of us, saying she could see Jesus before us. I looked in the Spirit and could also see Jesus with angels in front of us. Jesus was smiling joyously as He looked at His newly adopted child! The woman kept bowing and praising the Lord in tears of joy!
