Yes, I do disagree with many of the recent high profile Supreme Court decisions. I have discovered that if I fix my eyes on the government I will be continuously discouraged and the opportunity to rejoice without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:16; 1 Pet. 1:6), and in everything gave thanks (1 Thess. 5:8) and for everything give thanks (Eph. 5:20) will be vanquished from my life, and I will live depressed! Yuck! So what do I do?
God is adjusting my view concerning governments
I used to put more hope in them than I do now. I mean, the best government we probably ever witnessed was during the reign of David and his son Solomon. King David was a man after God’s heart (Acts 13:22) and yet he committed adultery with the wife of one of his leaders (2 Sam. 11) and then had the leader killed, along with others, to cover it up (2 Sam. 11:15-27). And this is probably the BEST government we have ever seen on this planet. Solomon was granted wisdom from God to rule wisely (1 Kings 3:5-13), and yet, he ended up with 1000 wives and concubines (1 Kings 11:3)! Even our immoral leaders don't do that!
No wonder God did not want to give the Israelites a king (1 Sam. 8)!
Governments may think they have power and authority to squash Christianity. They don't, so I needn't fear. Jesus calmly replied to Pilate, “"You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above" (Jn. 19:11).
The wicked have tried for thousands of years to remove God
“The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers take counsel together against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, "Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us!"
God is not shaken at all: "He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them." (Ps. 2:2-4)
Well, if God can laugh and Jesus can remain calm, then I guess I can laugh and remain calm also. Obviously the atrocities of the Roman government were worse than those of the U.S. government, and yet, Jesus gave the government scant attention. He was busy ushering in the government of the Kingdom of God (Matt. 12:28). That, of course, is our commission also (Lk. 10:9).
So what do I do with my anger?
When I get angry at the wickedness I see in government, then I have two steps of action I can take.
First - I can pray for God to remove the wicked (Ps. 109).
Let his days be few; Let another take his office... Because he did not remember to show lovingkindness, But persecuted the afflicted and needy man, And the despondent in heart, to put them to death. He also loved cursing, so it came to him; And he did not delight in blessing, so it was far from him. But he clothed himself with cursing as with his garment, And it entered into his body like water, And like oil into his bones. (Ps. 109:6-20)
Second - I ask God what I am to be doing to extend His Kingdom in the hearts of men, and I do what He instructs me to do. The only way to have good government is to have the true King ruling from the hearts of mankind. The best way I know to make that happen is to help father a movement that ushers in spiritual intimacy by teaching people, “You CAN easily hear God’s voice, and I can teach you how.”
I sure invite you as a reader of this document to be a part of this movement and the mission to saturate the world with communion with God. A nation does receive the government it derserves. Let's help create a nation that deserves great leaders.
The following IS absolutely true!
There will be no end to the increase of
His government or of peace!
(Isaiah 9:7 NASB)
I choose NO FEAR! If I don’t want to accept Isaiah 9:7, then what is my alternative? To believe that satan rules, and of the increase of satan’s government there shall be no end. To envision evil ruling, to prophesy that evil rules. To be negative and depressed all the time and to act on this negativity by celebrating when evil abounds, saying, "See I told you it needed to get darker and darker. I even have verses to back up my position," although admittedly, none of my verses were as unequivocally clear as Isaiah 9:7.
I tried that for a while, and it turned me into a pessimist who sat on my hands and prophisied gloom and doom. I could no longer thank God for and in all things, nor could I take my daily medicine which keeps my body healthy (Prov. 17:22). I want my daily medicine! I choose health!
I choose to believe in the continuous, unrelenting increase of God's government. I have seen it in a vision He gave to me when I asked Him for one. I believe it. I speak it. I act it, and because of this I get to participate in the expansion of His Kingdom here on earth! The book Paradise Restored by David Chilton expands this concept.
The creative capacities of my spirit will be used to further the Kingdom of God, not the defeated kingdom of darkness. See, believe, speak and act in the manner God has instructed you to. See His Kingdom extended through your life.
Put your light on a hill and shine on the area God has asked you to enlighten!
