Do you tend to judge people by the behavior of their children? Do you assume that the influence of a parent is so strong that there is a direct cause and effect relationship between the conduct of the children and the quality of the parenting? Yet have you not known devout and diligent parents who nonetheless had children who went astray? Consider my own story of the prodigal son. Was there anything wrong with the love of the father? Yet the younger son still departed and disgraced the family. You are not called to judge others. How much less based on the conduct of someone else?

Sins of the parents
by Anonymous
Although I agree with you that there will be instances in which regardless of the parenting, children will go astray, that is not the majority of the cases, but the exception. My husband and I are pastors and parents and for some reason God has sent us many, many children (13-19 years of age). There is a clear correlation between the type of parenting they are receiving and the way the conduct themselves. My husband and I ourselves are product of very poor parenting and at ages 46 and 52 respectively, we are still trying to overcome. So, God has not called us to judge, but we must sound the alarm to parents because in most instances it does matter how you live your life while you are parenting. Most of the time a praying parent who lives a consistent life inside and outside the home can have an impact in a child's choice. And we should all parent with fear and trembling. Ask our children to forgive us when we get it wrong and work hard at training them (and showing them with our lives) in the way they should go.
