Are you determined to never give up if you are right? Do you consider this to be a great virtue? I could have made a strong case for my innocence, but I held my peace when I was on trial for my life.
In more ordinary cases there are competing issues. A broken relationship may not be worth the value of asserting yourself. You should not compromise essential doctrine, but how many of your disputes revolve around that? Doesn’t self-interest lie at the center of most contention? Have you noticed that the more Christlike person in such an argument will yield their own way first? I have already told you to turn the other cheek, to agree with your adversary quickly, and to even suffer yourself to be defrauded, laying down your life and picking up your cross that you may follow me.
