I pointed out that the Pharisees tithed from the smallest herbs of their gardens and neglected the greater issues of mercy and justice. I said this they should have done, and not left the other undone. Do you allow yourself to get sloppy in the small details of your life of faith? You are right to put more emphasis on more important things. Do you use this as a basis for allowing yourself indulgences in small things? I drew a similar comparison between straining at gnats and swallowing camels. Obviously you can’t really swallow a camel, but how many gnats do you really want to swallow?
