men and women

Dale Cresap's picture

I created man and said that it was not good for him to be alone, so I made a companion suitable for him. Men and women have been attracted to each other ever since. And I said that it was good, but there is the risk for both men and women that they will seek in relationship with each other what they can only find in me. This is a form of idolatry and it leads to expectations that no one can fulfill. This creates pressures to force apart what I have joined together. Substituting anything for the fulfillment I alone can give will cause you grief, anguish, and loss. Seek me first and all your other affections and expectations will be properly ordered.

Wealth?

Dale Cresap's picture

I warned against the pitfalls of affluence, and an objective reading of the Bible would make you think it is something to be avoided. But who can read the Bible objectively enough to turn down wealth if it is offered to them? Do you understand that money brings with it a mindset of control and sufficiency? The poor have to trust in me because they have no resources of their own. They are not surprised when trouble comes for they see it as an inherent part of life. Have you seen the wealthy bewildered in trials because they thought their money would prevent them? I’m prepared to open the windows of heaven to bless you. Make it easy for me and don’t set your heart on riches when they increase.

mustard faith

Dale Cresap's picture

When you first come to me and we begin a relationship, how great is your understanding of me? Most people start with a small and flawed image of me. I am receptive beyond your ability to comprehend, and will accept you no matter how limited your understanding is, but I want you to grow in faith. Consider the story of the mustard seed, which I use as an example of faith. It is a small seed that grows into a large plant. This story from nature illustrates a spiritual principle. It is normal for your faith to start out small, but it is not normal for it to remain small. Your faith will increase in like manner as your increase in understanding my true nature.

idols

Dale Cresap's picture

The first commandment is that you shall have no other gods before me. This prohibits idolatry. You know that idols are not necessarily graven images, and not necessarily material things. They can be habits, attachments, and mindsets. Do you think idols must be evil things in and of themselves? But you can make idols of good things. Idolatry is turning anything of relative and temporal value into something of ultimate value. Christians should be aware of this because they spend their lives pursuing good things, and they do this at my direction and in obedience to me. But even the good things I give you are not a substitute for me.

equality?

Dale Cresap's picture

Do you believe in equality? Nearly everyone does, but since people are not identical or equal in a mathematical sense some careful thought is required to understand the ways in which people can be equal. Even then there is a tendency for those who see themselves to be less than equal to grasp for advancement. My word addresses this situation when it says that I did not consider equality with the Father as something to be grasped. You know from the doctrine of the Trinity that I have a closer identity with the Father than between any two people, even twins. If I didn’t grasp for equality then you shouldn’t either.

spiritual health

Dale Cresap's picture

Do you think it is your doctor’s job to keep you healthy? Perhaps you think that your insurance company bears some responsibility as well, but the healthiest people are those who assume their own responsibility for their health even though they make use of other resources for assistance. Do you think it is your pastor’s job to make you spiritual? True pastors are more than preachers and church managers; they are shepherds, but my word teaches you to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. You make it easier for those who watch for your souls if you take the responsibility and initiative for your own spiritual life.

ask me

Dale Cresap's picture

Do you study the Bible in your search for truth? A question came up about my credentials. Those most familiar with the scriptures pointed out that no prophet came from Nazareth. Since I was standing right there they could have asked me where I was born, but they were so confident in their understanding they didn’t feel the need to. Do you fear questions, particularly about spiritual matters, and grab the first answer at hand to resolve the question? This increases the risk of being wrong and not realizing it. It’s OK to have questions; the Bible was written in a way to prompt them. Go ahead and ask me; I’m still standing right here.

broken

Dale Cresap's picture

Do you think things that are intact are better than things that are broken, and unbreakable things are best of all? What use is something that is broken? If it doesn’t work and isn’t worth repairing you throw it away. Yet I said that whoever falls on this rock would be broken, and that was better than the alternative of having the rock fall on you. Hearts can be broken, and this is painful, but it is better than the alternative of making your heart unbreakable. I also teach that the sacrifices acceptable to me are a broken spirit and a broken and contrite heart. If you understand the value of this you will come and fall on the rock of your own choice to break your heart.

sacred companions

Dale Cresap's picture

My word says that those who hunger and thirst after righteousness are blessed because they will be filled. Do you see this only as a vigorous campaign against sin? It is more than that. Do you find that much of conversation is trivial and superficial and the presentation of an attractive façade? Don’t you hunger for something deeper, sacred companions with whom there is no desire for such a shallow level of connection? They that feared the Lord spoke often one to another and I hearkened and heard it and wrote a book of remembrance for those that feared me and thought upon my name. They shall be mine in the day that I make up my precious treasure and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him. Hungering for sacred companions on your journey is another form of hungering after righteousness and if you do so I will give them to you.
