spiritual vision

Dale Cresap's picture

He who is spiritual judges all things. Is everything spiritual? Most people make a strong distinction between spiritual things which are few and secular things which are many, but is this true? Didn’t I create all things and am I not the author of all life? You are surrounded by a world of spiritual reality. It may not be obvious to the casual observer, but if you are willing to look in faith it is there. If you look for me in places where you had not previously searched you will find that I am there. If you look you will see the transcendent in everyday life, for he who is spiritual comprehends all things.

How Do You Fund Ministry?

Mark Virkler's picture

Many people have this question. They feel called to "full time ministry" and wonder how to fund themselves, pay their bills and support their families if they do. The answer may come back, "Just trust God and live by faith," which is generally interpreted to mean, "You don't have a set salary, but live on whatever comes in through gifts." Others charge for their services, and may feel guilty when they are attacked and told that Jesus didn’t charge when He ministered the Gospel or that Jesus sent the disciples out and told them to take nothing with them, but enter homes into which they were welcomed and accept what was given them. Hmmmm! So what does the Bible teach about funding ministry?

God talk

Dale Cresap's picture

They that feared the Lord spoke often to one another. Have you noticed how much of conversation, even among believers, is about mundane and worldly things? Do you long for real divine encounters in your conversation, to talk about the Kingdom of God? Yet to suggest a shift in the topic of conversation seems self-righteous, even if it is what you hunger for. But I have promised that those who hunger will be filled. If this is what you want then ask me to intervene, and for wisdom that you may graciously shift the conversation topics upward, and encounter the Kingdom of God.

doctrine and judgment

Dale Cresap's picture

Would you rather spend a weekend with the committee for the enforcement of doctrinal purity or with a group of people picked at random from the phone book? Correct doctrine is important, so why is this such a dreadful prospect? You are called to judge yourself, but not to judge others. The practice of your faith should make you more pleasant company for other people rather than less. How do you perceive others? Don’t you avoid those who are judgmental? Yet isn’t it also difficult to be around those who make no effort to judge themselves? If you judge yourself and not others you will be a vessel prepared for every good work.

examine yourself

Dale Cresap's picture

Do you think of communion as a strictly individual matter? When you take communion you are taught to examine yourself. Yet if you fail to do so it is said that you have failed to discern the Lord’s body, which consists of the community of believers. So is communion individual or corporate? It is both. You are only called to examine yourself, not others, but you should do so with the awareness that you are part of a body, and that I am the head of the body. Your examination of yourself does not occur in isolation, but communion is life-giving in the way you relate to others, and to me.

What God will do for you

Dale Cresap's picture

Have you ever been astounded to think how far God is willing to go to accommodate you? Does it amaze you that the one who spoke worlds into existence is willing to meet you where you are? Shouldn’t it be the other way around, that the lesser should conform to the one who is greater? Yes, but you love because he first loved you. His love is greater so he took the initiative to seek you while you were still a sinner. Do you want to be transformed into his image? Then you should make it your purpose and goal to move away from God conforming to you and toward you conforming to God.

Christian Cults?

Dale Cresap's picture

Do you know of cults who claim to follow me, but their doctrine is contrary to the Bible? Have you noticed that they have another characteristic of isolation and exclusiveness, avoiding contact with outsiders and claiming to be the only true way? Have you also found Christian churches with orthodox Biblical doctrine who have this cult-like property of isolation and exclusiveness? I describe my followers collectively as one body with many members. This means that your identification with me and with the Kingdom of God as a whole should be stronger than your affiliation with your denomination.

Dreams

Dale Cresap's picture

Do you think of sleep as a spiritual activity? It is a human necessity and an integral part of my plan for all humanity, so you don’t have to look at it as lost time, or a necessary evil. Yet to see it as more than a limitation you must look beyond the superficial to see what transcendent meaning it represents. It is a time of refreshing for you in every way, including physical, emotional, and spiritual. If you are open to the idea, I can speak to you while you are asleep, and you may be in a better position to receive it then than you are during the daytime. Have you noticed that everyone in the Bible took their dreams seriously? Do you?
