daily word - shoot yourself?

Dale Cresap's picture

Marksmen intend to hit their targets and take pride in doing so. You don’t have to be a marksman to realize that shooting yourself when you meant to hit your target is an extreme failure, but have you ever done this? People heap contempt, scorn, ridicule, and derision on others in attacks upon them, but this says nothing at all about the target person. It says very much about the person pressing the attack. Contempt is not an appropriate action toward anyone for those who are called to love not only their neighbors, but even their enemies.

daily word - grades?

Dale Cresap's picture

Were you graded on your schoolwork? Was this your primary motivation, or were you more interested in mastery of the subject matter? Did you see some students who were naturally bright and to whom learning came easily, who got good grades and seemed indifferent to the material they were learning? Were there others who struggled yet were determined to know the subject? Academic credit is a construct of this world, not the one above. Do you delight in learning? Delight also in putting your knowledge into practice, for learning information makes you responsible for it.

daily word - My People

Dale Cresap's picture

Who do you think of when you think of my people? Christians? But Jews were my people before there were Christians, and they still are. That does not diminish the fact that Christians are my people. Selecting the Jews to be my covenant people was a sovereign act, and not a reward for them being more numerous or special than others. My intention was that through them should all the nations of the world be blessed. So there are multiple perspectives on this question. Are you prepared to think of all people when you think of my people? Were not all created in my image?

daily word - flexible plans

Dale Cresap's picture

Do you make confident assertions about your future plans? Have you ever had a disruption intervene in what you intended to do? Perhaps you should adopt more humility in your planning process. For your life is but a vapor, and your future activities are subject to influences that you cannot control. It is better that you should not vow, than to vow and be unable to carry it out. It is good for you to make plans, but consult me in your planning process, and then leave room for me to intervene in the execution. Have you ever done this?

What would you do if you only had a few hours to share My heart with this man? - By Matt Berry

Mark Virkler's picture

That was the question the Holy Spirit asked me, now almost two years ago. I had woken up like any other day, poured a cup of coffee and sat half-awake with the intention to connect with God. I read some Scripture, I prayed aloud, and then I waited in the stillness for Him to speak. (This blog introduces a new book by Matthew Berry, a CLU student.)

daily word - destiny?

Dale Cresap's picture

Do you live with a sense of destiny? You can succeed by the standards of the world around you in the amount of money you can make, accumulate, and spend, but does this by itself fill your life with meaning and purpose? Your destiny may be attached to the way you earn your living, but then again, it may not be. Do you find greater satisfaction in a bank balance, or in knowing that you were put here to make a unique contribution to make the world a better place? The world is groaning in travail for the manifestation of the destiny of the sons and daughters of God. I am too.

daily word - granted desires?

Dale Cresap's picture

What is your greatest desire? Is it to find a place where your gifts, talent, and passions converge and find a place of expression? Some people spend a lifetime looking for this, and some never find it. How tragic to have potential unrealized and unexpressed. Have you been successful in finding this for yourself? Was it like a journey with a roadmap and no delays or obstacles? Have you arrived yet? Ask the people who are performing in this place of alignment. Would it surprise you if they said that they were led to a place that provided fulfillment and a sense of destiny?

daily word - best church?

Dale Cresap's picture

Do you go to the best church in town? Your neighbor may have a better car, but if so he probably paid more money for it and that is a consideration, but churches typically open their doors to all comers without cost, so price is not a factor in choosing the best church. How do you regard those who made a different choice? Is it easier to accept people who choose different cars than it is to accept people who choose different churches? From my perspective there is one body of Christ.

daily word - suffering children

Dale Cresap's picture

Do you take delight in the suffering of your children? What sort of horrible person would take delight in the pain their children experience from injury or illness? But there is another sort of suffering. What if they make right choices that are not popular with friends and classmates? What if they put forth the discipline and effort to excel in a worthwhile pursuit rather than living in casual leisure? Aren’t you proud of them for doing the right thing even if, especially if, there is some sacrifice involved, which could be viewed as suffering?
