Elsewhere––in blogs, articles and my book––I have written generally about healing the sick in Jesus’ name, providing some principles and a simply prayer model. However, over the past couple of months I have been asked several times about praying for some specific conditions. Over the next while, I will address some of these.
I remember it like yesterday. It was early evening in a poor neighborhood in Nakuru, Kenya, during the second week of our Journey of Compassion. From the first day, when 460 people gave their lives to Christ in a downtown park, this had been a remarkable Journey.

"Why am I not seeing the break through when I pray?"
I was asked this question from a hospital bed yesterday. The man I prayed for has been in a fight for his life for several months now. He is believing that God will heal him. He is convinced that God wants to heal him. This has led him to begin (as so many of us do) to wonder if the problem is on his side.

It has been a wonderful year. God has surprised us again and again with his favor. In countries around the developing world churches have been established, people have been healed and saved, the hungry have been fed, the sick have received medicine, new opportunities and new hope have come to many, many communities. Truly, without the Holy Spirit working in, through and around us, these things would not have happened.
For four days, Mary had been traveling to her cousin Elizabeth’s home. Four days of thinking and praying about all that had been said to her by the angel. And now, standing before Elizabeth, a prophetic song known as the Magnificat comes tumbling out of Mary. It is her song of joy and praise––personally, nationally and universally. It is a song that tells us much about God’s intentions and actions in the world.
Today I was reading the first chapter of Luke’s Gospel. Luke was not only a physician, but a gifted historian who carefully chronicled the early days of Christianity in two volumes (Acts being the second volume). Once again, I was struck with the power of his introduction to God’s Great Story, bridging past and future, preparing the way for a whole new reality.
