Give the Holy Spirit His Rightful Place

God has placed teachers in the body (Eph.4:11), but our main Teacher is the Holy Spirit (Jn. 14:26). All teachers in the body of Christ are to rely on Him as they teach, and encourage their students to learn from Him (James 1:5).

Following are a few verses which speak of the work of the Holy Spirit as the Revealer of Truth and Teacher in our midst. The Holy Spirit must be given prominence in all teaching situations!

The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. (Jn. 14:26). The light of the Lord enters man through his spirit (Prov. 20:27). God indwells the spirit of the Christian (I Cor. 6:17). Gods Spirit provides: truth and guidance into truth (Jn. 16:13-15); revelation (Lk. 2:26, 27); light, wisdom, understanding, knowledge in all manner of workmanship (Ex. 31:3; Dan. 4:18); and anointing when one speaks (Acts 6:10).

In the classroom we are to guide our students into asking for and receiving revelation from God (James 1:5). Isaiah 11:2 tells us that knowledge, understanding and wisdom come through the Spirit. When the Bible commands us to reason, it specifically instructs us to reason “together with God” (Isa. 11:18). We call this “Spirit-led reasoning,” and define it as “reasoning guided by the flow of the Holy Spirit” (Jn. 7:37-39), as opposed to reasoning guided one’s self. Note that picturing is incorporated within God’s reasoning process (Isa. 1:18).

“Revelation-based learning” focuses on ensuring each student encounters the Holy Spirit in the midst of the learning process. We explore this idea more fully in this article: Revelation Knowledge Versus Reasoned Knowledge and the Implications for Bible Colleges
