What Does It Mean When God Says He Watches Over His Word To Perform It?

Mark Virkler's picture

Lord, You have said You watch over Your word to perform it.

  • The LORD said … I am watching over My word to perform it (Jer. 1:12).
  • For I the LORD will speak, and whatever word I speak will be performed (Ezek. 12:25).
  • Like apples of gold in settings of silver Is a word spoken in right circumstances (Prov. 25:11).

The underlined word in each of the above verses is dabar (Strongs # H1697). The definition, according to Brown, Driver, Briggs is: speech, word, speaking.

Lord, when I speak the written promises in Scripture concerning health, are these the words You mean, or is it the living word being spoken to me today by the Spirit, or is it both?

Mark, it is both, however, man was never meant to live out of a book, but rather out of daily communion with Me. The book was added because sin broke our daily communion (Gen. 3), and then My voice was rejected in favor of living out of laws (Deut. 5:23-33). However from the beginning, it was not so.

So return to My original intent, communion with Me. For the word spoken in daily communion is the word I stand unreservedly behind. It is the appropriate word for the moment you are in. My word at that time is like apples of gold in settings of silver (Prov. 25:11). It is a word of wisdom, or a word of knowledge, given by My Spirit which is exactly right for the moment you are living in (1 Cor. 12:8).

Thus you do not need to remember everything you have learned for all time, for behold I will bring to your remembrance the piece of information that is right for the moment you are living in (Jn. 14:26). All you simply need to do is live and walk by My Spirit (Gal. 5:25).

So Lord, as we speak biblical promises concerning health and healing, are we to have a living encounter with You as we recite them?

Of course! Every moment of your life is to include Me in it. What good is life when not abiding in the Vine?

"I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you" (Jn. 15:5-7).

Do not turn confession of Scriptures into a magic formula, where if you say just the right words you get a particular result. Words are to flow from My Spirit, to your spirit, and then out through your mouth. Behold I have spoken. Behold it is to be done.

Yes, Lord.

Journaling from Kirsten Himmelberg

Kirsten, Mark is right. It is all about relationship. Some people call it intimacy and you cannot relate to that word intimacy because nobody has been intimate with you. But you can relate to the word relationship. Just as the Jewish exorcists used my name to cast out demons but they had no relationship with me so the demons beat them up.  This can relate to healing.

Those who invoke my name over demons but have no relationship with me might be in for trouble.  As you have heard it said, my name is not a lucky charm. It is not garnish to be placed on your plate.   It is not a fancy salutation to finish your prayer with.

My name is the power of God unto salvation.  My name is the name above all names. You use it because you have a relationship with me. Not because you want to invoke something from me like the wiccans do. Some called God Father when he is not their father. They are talking to the wind. How was He to answer when He is not their father.  They speak to idols.

When a Christian prays for a non-Christian to be healed, the Christian is using their relationship with the Father to benefit the non-Christian. It is still a relationship.

People often get healed when they never even speak my name because they already know me and I know them.  We are in each others' face. We are one on one.  They don’t even need my name because we have relationship and I am their only source.  When you are one on one you don’t need to repeat a person's name over and over because they already have your attention.  In fact, it would be rude.  It would suggest they don’t hear you.  There is a relationship.

Some repeat my name to honor me. That is different.  Others repeat my name to try to get their soul in tune with me. Others repeat my name like they are calling up spirits.  To them, I do not listen.

Kirsten, I do want you to like my name and you are a bit shy with it.  You not need to be ashamed of my name.  You have seen my power in your life.  You need to get over that to make your prayers more powerful.

Jesus
