Throne Room Worship

Mark Virkler's picture

“Throne room worship” is defined as “joining the heavenly chorus in the throne room in praise, worship, and adoration before our King.”

Any person or congregation engaged in Throne Room Worship will be experiencing intimacy with God as you honor Him for Who He is. You are actively engaging with Him, loving Him, worshipping Him, celebrating Him, and enjoying the benefits of this divine encounter which are peace, faith, hope, love, and guidance. Wow, what a package! What an exchange! What an important, life-giving experience that is needed every day, especially when darkness comes pushing in.

Three previous blogs are available which explore Throne Room Worship in-depth:

  1. An Introduction to Throne Room Worship can be found here. It contains my 12-minute video teaching, “How I Engage in Throne Room Worship.” From my surveys, 5-25% of a congregation do this naturally. The rest of us need to be intentional about it.
  2. Pastor Jeff Duncan has a blog entitled “Which of These Four Places Do You Gaze as You Worship? ONLY ONE Is Correct!” Learn to be intentional about where the eyes of your heart are fixed as you worship.
  3. Pastor Shawna M. Diehl has a blog with her journaling, where God teaches her to Worship from a Place of Connection. In her journaling, God explains to her why their Spirit-led worship was off track and how to get it back on track.

Each of these three previous blogs is rich and filled with life-giving insights and instruction so one knows exactly how to enter into “Throne Room Worship” every time they worship. Read them now as I will not be repeating any of their teaching below.

Some of my journaling about emotions and worship

Mark, you have received revelation tonight. My Presence brings forth My feelings. The deeper you encounter Me, the deeper you experience My feelings. The more time you spend with Me, the more you glow with My feelings.

The imbalance is when you worship and praise and do not contact Me, thus feelings of the flesh are precipitated, and chaos results.

Feeling flowing from relationship is My divine order. They are not to be reversed or annulled. It is to be in that order. Relationship first and feeling second. Behold I have spoken.

Things to experience:

  • One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His temple. (Ps. 27:4)

Journaling question

Lord, what would You speak to me concerning worshipping in Your throne room?

Dig deeper – Lord, enlighten the eyes of my heart, I pray (Eph. 1:18 NASB).

Meditate and journal about the verses below, asking God what He wants to speak to you through them and how He would have you apply them to your life.

  1. I have seen You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. (Ps. 63:2)
  2. I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. (Ps. 16:8)
  3. I shall behold Your face in righteousness. (Ps. 17:15)
  4. My eyes are continually toward the LORD. (Ps. 25:15)
  5. Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually. (Ps. 105:4)
  6. I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called out to another and said, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory." And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke. (Isa. 6:1-4)
  7. After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things." Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne. And He who was sitting was like a jasper stone and a sardius in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald in appearance. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones; and upon the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white garments, and golden crowns on their heads. Out from the throne come flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder. And there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God; and before the throne there was something like a sea of glass, like crystal; and in the center and around the throne, four living creatures full of eyes in front and behind. The first creature was like a lion, and the second creature like a calf, and the third creature had a face like that of a man, and the fourth creature was like a flying eagle. And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, "HOLY, HOLY, HOLY is THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY, WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME." And when the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying, "Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created." (Rev. 4:1-11)
