About 25 years ago I returned from the pigsty to the Lord, praise His glorious Name.  I attended a church which believed in speaking in tongues and I asked for the gift - again - and again.  No result.  I puzzled.  It was not to be given me in church.  One day as I was driving along a busy road I felt a sound in my spirit - "dat".  The sound seemed persistent, until I realized the Lord was giving me tongues, which often begins like the sound of an infant.  I was excited, so I repeated the sound continually, and sure enough it developed into the gift of tongues, probably in many language types or styles.  I was ecstatic.

There came a time when I was consistently awakened in bed about 3am to speak loudly and strongly in tongues.  I had asked God to use my tongue any way He wanted to get the prayers He wanted from me.  I was excited about this.

Later I remarried and am living in a wonderful church but the use of tongues is always private.  However it seems that God directs me to speak day and night in tongues when not otherwise engaged with my mouth.  I particularly do it when driving as it doesn't in any way affect my concentration on the road.

I was actually driving along a busy road thinking I should begin a new bank account for a business venture.  I had decided already to use a different bank and was considering whether it should be bank A or bank B.  I didn't have any preference or knowledge of how each bank operated.  I thought, "Oh, I think I'll go along to bank A,” so I continued driving and looking where it might be found.  Then it was as if I heard a correction in my spirit that felt like, “Turn around and go to bank B.”  It was perhaps like receiving a word of knowledge, and it was compelling, insistent.  So I thought, “OK Father, if that's your instruction, here I go," and turned the car right around to go to the second bank whose location I already knew.  It surprised me that my Heavenly Father would intervene this way, but I am always very excited to have an instruction from The Most High, and do it immediately.  He thinks of us all the time and I am amazed and just love it.  He always knows what is ahead (sometimes far ahead) of us and prepares us for that.

At one stage I needed a change and asked the Lord where I should go.  I awoke one morning to see clearly the name of the town where I now live - BORDERTOWN - written in large white letters before my face.  Immediately I went there to buy property and joined the church there where I married again, and we eventually met with Charity on her teaching rounds.  Wonderful.  And yes, we are all recording our dreams and paying great attention to them.

I am always excited when I find myself speaking tongues as I understand that God is eliciting the prayers He needs to hear from His saints.  I also feel that it is keeping my spirit very close to Him, washing me constantly, and developing the strength of His spirit in me.  This excites me.

In the 1980's I was a baby Christian in a rural, religious, mainline church with no teaching on the Holy Spirit.  They were traumatized when several of us began to raise our hands in worship in the back row, so we were invited to do that elsewhere!  Then I read Something More by Catherine Marshall, and I wanted something more!  When I got invited to a Full Gospel Businessmen's Meeting, I was all excited to get prayed for to receive tongues, but didn't know to open my mouth.  Went home downcast thinking, "Well, I didn't get it."  Next morning I sat in my chair bummed about it, but said, "Well, I'm gonna praise God anyway," and began singing... and out came a beautiful language!  But within minutes, along came the enemy in my ear:  "That wasn't tongues, that was Hebrew you've been reading in the Bible;" then, "That wasn't tongues, it was Spanish" (I'm fluent in Spanish); and finally, "That wasn't tongues, it was Baby Talk!"  Shot down with no ammo, I closed my mouth and believed that lie for about six weeks.  Then, supernaturally God moved to restore!  I went upstairs to rest in the early evening and had fallen into a deep sleep when the phone rang.  I rushed disoriented downstairs to answer it, but no one was there...  Then all of a sudden out came those tongues again, and I told the sucker, "There devil, those are tongues and you're never gonna fool me again!"  Unfortunately, his next tactic worked for more years than I want to admit.  I got the gift, but not the "why" -- I'm a left-brainer, all logic -- so, with no understanding, I didn't value this precious gift, or use it too often.  My loss... a miracle in my mouth, a hotline to heaven, but lightly esteemed.  Thank God, in His mercy and forgiveness He doesn't give up as easily on us!
