The October 2021 issue of Life Extension has an interview with Dr. Joel Kahn (pg. 83) on various approaches to resolving heart palpitations and AFib. That interested me as I had AFib following heart surgery. The AFib I had experienced is now gone and I noted that I had followed the same regimen he recommended nutritionally to resolve it. So I decided I would share what I have experienced with you. Obviously I am not an MD so I cannot, and am not, prescribing and none of this article is medical advice.
Quotes from Dr. Kahn:
"Nutrients can play a key role in managing and eliminating palpitations of all kinds. The most helpful measure I offer patients is to increase magnesium intake… most people can add 250 – 500 mg a day… The combination of magnesium with coenzyme Q10 (coQ10) is highly effective for most palpitations."
Other nutrients he recommends are D-ribose powder and L-carnitine and Taurine.
In my own life, I dealt with AFib for about 18 months after having heart surgery. Finally, my doctor told me to increase magnesium to 900 mg per day. I had only been taking 400 mg a day. Within a couple of weeks, all remaining AFib was gone (I check myself with the Kardia unit twice a day).
I was also taking coQ10, Taurine, Bio-Fisetin, R-Lipoic Acid and Cardiac Calm.
So I am excited that AFib symptoms are now behind me, through prayer and nutrition and exercise.
I did an interesting experiment. We have a Qest4 unit that will test any item you put on its electronic plate, telling you if your body needs the item and how much. For the brand of magnesium the doctor sold me, it said I needed 800 mg, but for the magnesium I buy from R-Garden, it said I only needed 600 mg (which is what I am now taking). Once when I ran out and purchased the best magnesium I could find in a local vitamin store, Qest4 indicated that I needed 2000 mg daily. Wow! Big difference. So all supplements are not equal. I can tell you every product R-Garden sells tests excellent when placed on the Qest4 unit, so we use many of their products. (For example, their “Maximizer” is awesome to help digest food.)
